The National Wildlife Federation is an organization which began in 1936 to be a voice for protecting the country’s wild heritage.  The Meadow Project’s film Hometown Habitat, Stories of Bringing Nature Home, features one of the newest habitat certifications of NWF, Sacred Grounds.  An initiative of the Garden for Wildlife program, Sacred Grounds taps into the natural partnership between religion and the notion that we should preserve “God’s Green Earth”.  The Meadow Project proudly partners with the NWF to advance this initiative as well as all education and creation of wildlife habitat.

Certify Your Habitat

Create a Wildlife Habitat on your own property! It is easier than you think!! By adding native plants, food, water, cover and places to raise young to our yards and gardens, we provide needed resources for wildlife and create healthy ecosystems for wildlife and people. Download the certification checklist for steps you can take to be come a NWF Garden for Wildlife certified property. Get Certified Today at http://nwf.org/certifiedwildlifehabitat.

The Sacred Grounds program gives people an opportunity to create a wildlife habitat where they worship. In addition to planting habitat on congregation land, they need to talk about the connection between their faith and the environment and educate beyond their congregation about protecting wildlife habitat and God’s creation. Hosts With The Most

Whereas native species are always better than non-native species in fueling food webs, not all native plants are equal. Keystone native species are superior because they support many more wildlife species. They do this by hosting greater numbers of butterflies, moths, and skippers, and by providing nutritious berries, seeds, pollan and nectar. Plant a keystone native Oak tree, 500 species hosted.  Plant a native Redbud, 24 species hosted.

Check out the NWF Plant Finder for a list (by zip code) of trees, shrubs, flowers and grasses for best host plants to get the most pollinators in your yard!  https://www.nwf.org/NativePlantFinder

Join NWF in restoring wildlife habitat by becoming a Wildlife Habitat Community. It is an opportunity to educate the community about the critical need to restore habitat while connecting with neighbors and it’s fun! Collectively we can make a huge, eco-friendly impact creating an environment where both wildlife and people can thrive.  https://www.nwf.org/communitywildlifehabitat
